Bachelor of Science Requirements

 

The bachelor of science degree emphasizes lab work and independent research. This degree is recommended for those intending to pursue graduate school, pharmacy school, or forensics work. Students earning a bachelor of science in chemistry must satisfy both departmental and college requirements.

College Requirements
All students graduating from the College of Arts and Sciences must complete Essential Studies and Integrative Studies requirements.

Departmental Requirements
The Chemistry Department requires all students seeking a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry to complete a program including courses in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.

Major Requirements

Chemistry (42 credits)

 

•CHEM 113 (4 cr) Fundamental Chem I
•CHEM 114, 116 (3 cr, 2 cr) Fund Chem II & Lab
•CHEM 261, 263 (3 cr, 2 cr) Organic Chem & Lab
•CHEM 262, 264 (3 cr, 2 cr) Organic Chem & Lab
•CHEM 399 (for at least 2 cr) UG Research
•CHEM 431, 433 (4 cr, 2 cr) Biochem & Lab
•CHEM 481 (4 cr) Physical Chem
•CHEM 482, 484 (4 cr, 3 cr) Phys Chem & Lab

Plus your choice of one of the following:
•CHEM 421, 423 (3 cr, 2 cr) Analyt Chem & Lab
•CHEM 441, 443 (3 cr, 2 cr) Inorg Chem & Lab

Mathematics (14 credits); Math Dept’s Placement Test will determine your initial class

 

•MATH 106 (5 cr) Analyt Geom & Calc I
•MATH 107 (5 cr) Analyt Geom & Calc II
•MATH 208 (4 cr) Analyt Geom & Calc III
