GREETINGS FROM THE CHAIR
![]() |
As Chair of Chemistry at Nebraska, I am committed to guiding
our department towards excellence in education and research. With more
than half of our faculty of 30 having joined the department in the past
decade, we have a diverse and energetic faculty who share these goals.
One measure of the success of these efforts is the fact that the Department
of Chemistry at UNL was recently ranked 34th among the world's graduate
chemistry departments in terms of citation impact of the faculty's published
papers. We are particularly pleased to have this rank, considering that
Nebraska is one of the least populated states in the nation.
Measures of success in undergraduate education are not as easily quantified. However, we do have modern teaching laboratories, an extraordinary multi-media classroom, and faculty dedicated to advancing modern chemical education. Although our 30 faculty are responsible for instruction of nearly 3,000 undergraduate students, we are able to provide a high level of individualized attention through our many graduate instructors. Undergraduate students who excel in our program may choose from many top-ranked graduate or professional programs. Research is the heart of our Ph.D. program. As described in our brochure, our research programs extend beyond the traditional divisions of chemistry into many areas of interdisciplinary science. To achieve excellence in research, we have placed a high priority--with considerable success in many areas--on acquiring the equipment and facilities required for cutting-edge research. We seek highly qualified graduate students who share our goals of excellence. Whatever your connection to chemistry, please plan to visit us when in the area. I hope you will contact us for more information about Chemistry at Nebraska. This may be done by emailing cheminfo@unl.edu .
