2009 Chemistry Day Tentative Schedule

8:45 am - 9:10 am   Registration
9:00 am   Campus Tours given by UNL Admissions Staff. Tours will begin every 10 minutes and will last approximately 30 minutes. 
9:30 am   As students return from Campus tours short building tours will begin, students will visit the Undergraduate Instrumentation Center, and Undergraduate Lounge. You can also spend some time in the lobby visiting the exhibits.
10:00 am - 11:10 am   Tours of Research Labs:
    You will tour three professor's labs each depicting a different area of Research. Each visit will last 15 minutes during which the professor will tell about the research taking place in the lab.  There will be 5 minutes to walk from one lab to the next.
11:15 am - 12:00 pm   A Periodic Table of Chemistry in the Movies.
    In this presentation, Prof. Mark Griep will show clips from about 15 movies that feature the Periodic Table.
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm   Students: Lunch & T-Shirt Chromatography
    The noon hour will be separated into two sections.  One part will be a free lunch catered by Valentino's Pizza served in the Chemistry Resource Center and then a hands-on activity of T-Shirt Chromatography where you will receive a free T-shirt to decorate.
12:00 pm   Teachers: Teacher's Roundtable
    While eating lunch with other teachers, you'll learn lively and unique demonstrations that you can do at your high school. A handout will tell you how to do them. There will be a drawing for one class (school) to receive a visit.
1:10 pm   UNL Chemistry Major Program Overview
    Experimental Demonstration, careers and your chemistry degree(s), BS & BA Chemistry Program Requirements, Independent Research for BS majors, Scholarship Program
2:00 pm   Scholarships, Prizes, & Answers
    Find out who won the Chemistry Department Scholarships and other prizes at this session. There will also be an opportunity to answer any remaining questions.
