Doorway EYEWASH HOSES

The doorways to most labs have:

• EYEWASH HOSES

• Safety showers (next section)

If you get something in your eye

and are

temporarily blinded:

Find your way to the entrance door of your lab..

feel around for the eyewash hose..

depress the handle,

and

run a little water thru the hose BEFORE

you pass water over your eyes,

RUN SOME WATE  (bacteria or other junk present in the line)HRU   for a few seconds

Retract your eyelid(s),

We know its hard not to, BUT

DON'T SQUINT!

(running water over closed eyes does no good)

PASS CLEAR WATER OVER YOUR EYE(S)

until the impurity is gone

(this may take quite some time!).

Safety authorities recommend 15 minutes!

If you experience discomfort due to the

coldness of the water,

Pass the water over your eye(s)

INTERMITTENTLY!

GO TO THE HEALTH CENTER

immediately afterward!

Don't worry about the mess on the floor!

DO IT!!
